The UVa-Wise Cavalier football team lost to the Notre Dame University Falcons 41-10 on Saturday.

Women’s tennis grabs third consecutive victory this season

The UVa- Wise women’s tennis team defeated Concord University 9-0 and collected its third consecu­tive conference win on Saturday after beating Shepherd University 7-2 on Sept. 28 and Fairmont State University 8-1 on Sept. 27.

Diversity is evident when examining the makeup of the newest freshman class at UVa-Wise. According to figures obtained through Rusty Necessary, vice chancellor for enrollment management, there are 325 full-time freshmen at the college. Fifty-one percent of the class is female and 49 percent male.

Fiction being published

Dr. Amy Clark, chair of the department of communications, learned recently that an ex­cerpt from a fictional novel she is writing enti­tled “Jude” will be published in the fall issue of “Appalachian Heritage” magazine out of Berea, Kentucky.

Halloween attractions invite the spooky

Halloween celebrations have begun early in Wise as G and J Corn Maze returns for its second year. The corn maze was started because it was felt that there just was not much to do in Wise, the owners said last week.
