During this new membership semester, the NSLS students will engage in an extensive orientation and leadership training day events, success networking team meetings with their peers, and learn from nationally-recognized speakers. Once these chapter steps to Induction are completed, these new NSLS members will have experienced enumerable personal and professional development opportunities, and become lifetime NSLS members.
NSLS members also have a number of benefits. They will have access to success coaches, leadership collections, scholarships and awards, a job bank, custom recommendations, and more.
NSLS Advisor, Stephanie Shell states, “NSLS hosts nomination periods each fall and spring semester, as well as as opportunities for induction each semester, too. NSLS is a unique campus leadership and honor society that requires student involvement and commitment from day one. Students engage in orientation, leadership training day, success networking teams, and speaker broadcasts, leading up to their official induction at the end of the semester. These steps give students the opportunity to engage with other students, gain insights into their own communication styles, and develop their leadership skills. NSLS members put these lessons-learned into action in their academic programs, in other clubs and organizations, in community service, and in their careers upon leaving UVA Wise.”
Shell also states, “NSLS is excited to learn the delivery destinations of our 268 shoeboxes collected in the OCC Campus Shoebox Campaign held in November 2020. Shoeboxes are a once-in-a-lifetime gift of school supplies, hygiene items and small toys for children, ages 2-14, in need all over the world. Often, a shoebox is also a first-ever gift received for many children, too. This year, our shoeboxes were delivered to children in Burundi, Honduras, Madagascar, and other hard-to-reach areas. NSLS received a Macedonian Call grant, as well as generous support from SGA, alumni and friends, to provide the over $2400 in shipping costs for our campus shoeboxes. The UVA Wise NSLS chapter is pleased to coordinate this annual community service project that engages the entire campus community and has a world-wide impact.”
