Merry Lu Prior, Provost Sandy Huguenin, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Sim Ewing, and Chair of the Natural Sciences Department Margie Tucker shovel soil over the roots of a sugar maple tree at the Nov. 30 dedication of the tree to the late chancellor David J. Prior. The Department of Natural Sciences initiated the purchase of the tree, which was planted outside the David J. Prior Convocation Center, because Merry Lu Prior said that her husband admired the autumn colors of campus. A redbud tree is set to be planted at the Lila Vicars Smith House in his honor, as well. The University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors is set to approve the college’s next chancellor at a meeting this Friday and will publicly announce the hire immediately after, officials said.
