Rick Bragg will be discussing his latest work at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Oct. 18.
Bragg, a Pulitzer Prize winning author, writes for Southern Living magazine and is an instructor in the communications department at The University of Alabama. He is known for his first publications “All Over But Shoutin’” as well as “Ava’s Man”.
UVa-Wise Communication Studies Department Chair Amy Clark will be interviewing Bragg prior to the presentation.
“Bragg’s career history as a journalist means that he has a wealth of stories to tell,” Clark says, “So much of his work is infused with his upbringing and deep connection to the South and to working people; he will connect with this community.”
The event will be held in Cantrell Banquet Hall, at 6 p.m. It is open to the public and is free admission. UVa-Wise students may also earn one cultural activity credit for attending. Wise Writes and The Appalachian Writing Project sponsors the event.
“Even if you’re not a southerner, his wit and remarkable way with words will make this an event worth seeing,” Clark said.
