Damron holds hopes for solid Cavs season

UVa-Wise Head Coach Dane Damron is optimistic and excited for the 2018 football season.

As the football season kicked off with the first scrimmage on Thursday August 30, Damron says the football team is gearing up for a great playing season. Coach Damron said that there was more talent on the team than previous seasons and that everyone is working very hard to make it a great season.

Coach Damron said that as far as the offensive line goes, fans should look out for players such as Kaian Duverger, Christ Thaxton, Victor Mitchell and Jake Barnet.  “[They] have a chance to do great things for us,” Damron said.

Standout players playing defensively this season are Donavan Montague, Marquis Hamilton, Chris White, and Buster Henderson.

With a great lineup of both offensive and defensive players, this team has great potential.

“Our conference is very good. We have to make sure we are prepared to play, because any given week anyone can win in our league, with Shepherd [University] being the best,” Damron said.

“I can give you all the coaching clichés you want, but if we just take care of us, I think we have a chance to have a very good football team. If we start worrying about everybody else, we are not concentrating on what is important,” he said.

The UVa-Wise football season began with a home game on Aug 30, where the Cavs lost 7-17 to Glenville State College.
