Food, beverages, new acts come with festival’s fifth year on UVa-Wise campus
For the fifth year in a row, RTE 23 Music Festival will be returning to The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Aug. 25.
New and returning students are settling in as the Fall semester begins, and whether you are new to the area, or this is your home away from home, the RTE 23 Music Festival is a great way to kick off the new school year.
The event will feature various bands and vendors with an emphasis on highlighting the regions unique culture. According to Festival Co-Director, Dave Stallard, that has always been an important concept to them.
“Our mission is to highlight the local and regional wonder as much as we can and in any way we can” Stallard says.
While this may only be the fifth annual festival, the partnership was born in several years ago. “Our original concert series was actually born on campus back in 2009, and, when we decided to go full steam ahead with what has become RTE 23, UVa-Wise was the natural choice as the site” Stallard says.
Featured bands will include The New Respects, Cordovas and Young Mister. Additionally, there will be several local food vendors on sight such as Foodie Fiction, The Shack,
PureWood Firebrick Oven, Brain Freeze Shaved Ice, Lincoln Road Cold Brew Coffee and more.
A beer and wine garden will also be available with offerings from Sugar Hill Brewing Company, Bristol Station Brews & Taproom, MountainRose Vineyards, Bold Rock Cidery and more. Local crafter will also be marketing their wares at the event.
The event will be held on the practice football field at Carl Smith Stadium on Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.
