BRIDGEPORT, W.Va – UVa-Wise men’s basketball redshirt senior forward Taiwo Badmus has been named Mountain East Conference Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement Monday afternoon.
In last Monday’s 102-101 double-overtime victory against Notre Dame, Badmus posted 21 points and nine rebounds to help the Cavs edge the Falcons on the road. The redshirt senior made 7-of-16 shots and went 4-for-8 from downtown.
Returning home, Badmus had an impressive night of shooting as he scored 24 points against Berea College to get the Cavs first home win of the season. The London, England native went 8-for-12 from the field, 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, and added seven rebounds against the Mountaineers.
Against a tough No. 4 Lincoln Memorial squad, Badmus put up a season-high 32 points. The 6-foot-7 forward scored 21 of the Cavaliers 38 first-half points against the Railsplitters and finished the afternoon going 10-for-15 from the floor, 5-for-8 from beyond the arc, and grabbed nine boards.
So far this season, Badmus leads the Cavaliers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 20.1 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Men’s basketball will hit the road to take on the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, Nov. 29, with game time scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
