The UVa-Wise softball team has maintained a .500 record at 7-7 through their first 14 games of the season.
The Cavs started the season off strong by posting three wins in a row. Things went downhill from there as Wise would drop their next six games. Wise dropped doubleheaders versus both Carson-Newman University and King University.
Wise would go on to pick up a win in the second game of a doubleheader against Lees-McRae College to end their losing streak.
After ending their losing streak, the Cavs won three of their next four, bringing their record an even 7-7.
Zoe Millard has been outstanding for the Cavaliers this season, posting a .367 batting average and 18 hits. Shannon Bennett and Samantha Ely have also been forces for the Cavs as each have posted a .341 average.
When asked about what her team has done well this season, Millard said, “I feel like our team has done well coming together at the beginning of our season. It was a little rough in parts, but we all learned from this and are fighting back.”
Millard also spoke of what the team could improve upon. “I think that our team will improve when we continue to fight and win more games during our conference play”, Millard said.
“I think with small improvements throughout our season we will be able to make it to the conference tournament and hopefully further.”
Taylor Brandts has been a standout on the mound this season posting a 1.79 ERA through 54.2 innings pitched.
UVa-Wise’s next home game will be a doubleheader on February 23 in Wise against Bluefield State College.
