Men, Women Return From Busy Winter Break

The men’s and women’s basketball teams managed to stay busy over the UVa-Wise winter break as they each played a handful of games.

The women’s team started their break with a trip to Puerto Rico to compete in a tournament hosted at the University of Puerto Rico. UVa-Wise played a total of three games spanning the weekend of Dec. 17-18.

Wise would win their only game on Saturday against the Rio Piedras by a score of 71-32. On Dec. 18, the Cavs would lose both games, one against Bayamon and one against King University.

On New Year’s Eve, the women’s team matched up with Lees-McRae College, who they beat 68-46. In their first game of 2017, the women took down Fairmont State University by a score of 62-54.

In their Jan. 5 game, the women’s team dismantled Shepherd University with an 81-42 victory. The women completed their break by defeating Urbana University 74-60.

While the men did not play quite as many games as the women, they still had their fair share of games over the winter break.

The men’s team began their break with a 70-51 loss in an exhibition game at Eastern Kentucky University. The men began 2017 with a 103-79 loss to Fairmont State University.

Then, on Jan. 5, the Cavs defeated Shepherd University 78-69 to complete their list of games over the winter break.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will play again on Jan. 26 at Shepherd University.
