UVa-Wise sophomore Jacob Smith earned MEC Golfer of the Week honors for his play at the King University Invitational held at the Bristol Country Club in Bristol, Tennessee.
Smith shot a one under par 139 to lead the Cavaliers to an overall sixth place finish. The Strasburg High School graduate sank an eagle on the 18th hole from 175 yards out on the tournament’s first day to finish the day tied for eighth place.
Smith improved on day two as he birdied four holes on the back nine. Smith’s score of 68 was the lowest ever by a Cavalier golfer. Freshman Andrew Johnson shot a 72 on both days of the tournament which earned him a tie for 16th. Junior Cody Large and freshman Alex Arnold finished in a tie for 32nd while senior Nick England came in 37th.
The Cavaliers’ next event will be the MEC Fall Invitational at the Williams Country Club in Weirton, West Virginia.
