The women’s tennis team earns their first Mountain East Conference win on Saturday by defeating Shepherd, 8-1.
Coming off of a close 5-4 loss to Milligan College in Wise Wednesday, the Cavs looked to adjust as they dominated the Rams to gain some traction in the conference this season.
The Cavs would take control early by taking all three doubles matches giving them a 3-0 lead. Daria Tyshchenko and Bailey Christoforatos would serve as the No. 1 doubles team while No. 2 doulbes pair saw Marti Gay and Mackenzie Lawson winning their matches 8-3. Shepard continued to fight but came up short against the third doubles duo, both seniors, Haley Thacker and Junetta Nuckels as they would get an 8-6 victory.
Coming in 3-2 on the season, No. 1 singles player Tyshchenko improved to 4-2 over Shepard’s Molly Lovern 6-3, 6-1 in two sets.
The No. 2 singles match would also end in two sets as Shepherd’s Alisha Adkins was defeated by Bailey Christoforatos 6-3, 6-1.
Lawson at No. 5 would come post the largest victory margin by winning 6-0, 6-0 in two sets over Bruley of Shepard.
No. 3 and No. 6 singles would post similar victorious scores as Thacker would lose only two games and claim the win over Littleton 6-1, 6-1 sealing the victory for the Cavs, while No. 6 Nuckels defeated Bock winning 6-1, 6-2.
After a match on Sunday, where the Cavs would win 7-2 through the fog, they have a six-day break and will then travel to West Liberty in West Virginia for their second MEC away match this season.
