Burger joint, sub shop open on fourth floor

In addition to eating buffet-style in the Smith Dining Commons, students can now also find food at the new Coyote Jack’s Grill and Mondo Subs dining area on the fourth floor of the student center.
Over the summer, Chartwells officials made the change to the area once known as Papa Joe’s by bringing in the company’s internal brands to open the two new franchises.Brett Lawson, the director of dining services, said the change was made based on student feedback and the overall need for fresh, new dining options.
Coyote Jack’s began serving southwestern-style meals to students at the beginning of the school year, while Mondo Subs is set to open within the next week.
Old favorites like hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, subs and fries will all continue to be served, but with new twists, Lawson said. Burgers and sandwiches are being made with new seasonings and sauces and both cold and toasted subs will soon be offered.
Onion rings, chicken tenders, grilled cheese and flatbread sandwiches have also been added to the menu.
The switch is generating buzz around campus.
“I like the fact that the food isn’t exactly what you get at the caf,” said junior history major James Tiffany.
As for the meals themselves, the response from students has been generally positive.
“The fries are superb, and the chicken sandwiches are delightful,” said junior Ryan Bierlair, a physical education major.
Like the former Papa Joe’s, Coyote Jack’s and Mondo Subs will offer the meal exchange program after 1 p.m. on weekdays.
The new dining area will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. Coyote Jack’s and Mondo Subs will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Papa Joe’s, located on the lower level of the dining commons, will remain open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday and will be closed on Saturday.
